Featured Caregivers 2024
November Featured Caregiver
We have a very special shoutout for our Featured Caregiver this month… Joy!
Joy was already selected as a Featured Caregiver this year, but her actions, along with the actions of so many other brave and courageous caregivers during the recent disasters, deserve nothing less than another feature. When asked about the reasoning for Joy’s nomination, her manager said “…Joy went above and beyond without even being asked including coming to my home and picking up supplies for five clients and delivering them on her own time. She even went over 40 minutes out of her way to get to her clients and other clients that she would never have normally been sent to with no questions asked. Please understand we have entire roads gone in this area, not just a bit of damage and she did not give up no matter how far she had to go to make sure she arrived where she was needed.”
Joy has been with the Sunny Days Carolinas family for almost three years. She’s originally from Gerton but currently resides in Flat Rock. She has a daughter and son-in-law with two grandchildren that live in San Diego, and a son with a grandson who lives in Asheville. Outside of work she enjoys socializing with friends, concerts, dancing when possible, walking/hiking, and photography. Joy’s favorite food is pizza, favorite types of music are 40’s – 70’s popular music and 60’s-80’s country, and her favorite movie is a Muppets Christmas Carol. A fun fact about Joy is that when she was growing up, her parents owned a gas station, so her teenage job was running the store, pumping gas, and checking the oil back when customers didn’t drive up and pump their own gas.
When asked what caregiving means to her, she said “…being able to make a difference in someone’s life.” Her favorite part of being a caregiver is “…meeting special people, hearing their stories and getting to know them, and feeling that I’m helping them in some way.” Her advice for new caregivers is “…respect the client’s history, culture, and interests and do what you can to enrich their life while you are with them.”
When we think of our company and the legacy, we want it to leave, we think of caregivers like Joy. Selfless and giving in every way imaginable. We’re so proud of you Joy, and so proud of the entire staff of wonderful caregivers we employ. Keep being awesome!
